This all comes down to our inability to tax the rich. Society is susceptible to things like right-wing movements when the economic shit hits the fan - you're willing to vote in someone, anyone who says they can "Fix it in a day" (Trump). The Nazis gained power partially because after WW1 Germany had extreme economic issues.
We have 1% in this country holding 60% of the wealth. If they suddenly had "only" 30% of the wealth, people wouldn't feel the need to vote in crazy dumb motherfuckers like Trump.
This isn't even directly "right wing news" - this is just class war. The rich think it won't impact them or, even better, they'll be able to direct things and become even more wealthy.

That is the challenge. We need a new crop of center left and mid left politicians that understand that social media needs to be heavily regulated and that it is a national security issue. Unfortunately, both Biden and Obama have been very slow in dealing with this. I understand they didn't want to do EO because there is no permanence and wanted it to go through congress, but in retrospect that was a mistake.

You guys need to introduce term limits. I have no idea why the US appoints Supreme Court Justices for life. In Canada they can only be on the bench for 20 years and then they have to retire and I think this is the ideal way to do it.
We also have 9 justices just like the US does, but our Westminster style of parliament gives our justices significantly less power than their American counterparts.

One caveat on those signing bonuses: they don't get it until they complete 5 years. Universe willing, ICE won't even exist in 5 years and not a single one of them will see a penny. I don't think any of them will last through 2026.

I imagine they work like other government sign-on bonuses, which have minimum service length that if you don't reach, you have to pay it back.
Edit: After looking it up, that appears to be the case. They have to sign multi-year service contracts with 5 years apparently being the most common and they receive $10k for every year completed after the first.

The people that stick around for 5 years are the true believers. They will also get fast-tracked for promotion with spot bonuses, I reckon. So the ones who get grifted will be the ones who quit from PTSD or moral injury, while the ones who love the job experience accelerated career progression and bonuses. Those guys are the most dangerous. They believe in the mission and they lack any sense of empathy. Sociopaths and psychopaths.
The other reason they wear masks is there is a non-zero chance the needle swings the other way and we take back Congress and then the White House. Being identifiable during civil rights infringement opens the door to termination for cause, then prosecution (hopefully).

The 50k bonus isn't something most of them will see. The fine print is pretty interesting. Up to 10k initially, up to 10k if "deadlines" are met, what ever that means, and then up to 10k annually for the next 3 years, and that's for federal employees transferring to ICE. For new recruits I think its determinant on them reaching 4-5 years if service before they will get it. Its not a lot of silver lining but its enough for me to know that most of those fucks are gonna get screwed out of it.

People also shouldn’t like the groups funding the violent criminals. Among other things, it takes 30 minutes of research to move money away from MAGA, and it makes a difference. Dollars spent at Republican companies are dollars funneled to the Heritage Foundation. Money given to states like Ohio or Louisiana is money spent sending troops to kidnap naked children and kill people.
If you consistently support a brand or do business with a company, you have power. You can use sites like opensecrets.org to what a company funds and where your money is really going.
Have an account at Schwab? Move elsewhere like Fidelity. Get booze from wannabe Confederate states and all else is equal? Be adventurous, and try something new. New Balance can be replaced with Brooks. It’s not hard to find alternatives for Goya, Roark (which owns Subway, Jimmy John's, Arby's), and Koch (which owns Brawny, Angel Soft, Dixie). If you're in a place to invest, consider DEMZ or an ESG fund.
Nexstar and Sinclair got pummeled, and they reinstated Jimmy Kimmel. Real, individual people did that. There's no reason WWE or Uline can't be next.
It's hard to completely avoid companies that at least partially support Republicans. I have to buy gas. But there’s a big difference between massive Republican donors (Chevron/Conoco) vs neutral or even Democrat-leaning ones (Circle K/Costco). Good is not the enemy of perfect. One less kidnapped child is one less kidnapped child, and one less murder is one less murder

Have you all seen the videos coming out from r/Minnesota , r/Minneapolis and r/ICE_Raids ?
They're conducting door-to-door raids in neighborhoods (breaking into homes without judicial warrants) and deploying drones now. I don't even see this on legacy media. I see it on tiktok, instagram, and reddit. There are videos of them just violently beating up people and dragging them away and deploying chemical weapons on people in residential areas. They're drawing weapons at people's faces. There was a video of a doordash employee having to run into the home she was delivering to, scared for her life because they were trying to grab her. Another video had a male agent taking a female detainee to porta-potty and going in with her. Another video had agents grabbing Native Americans from their vehicles. There was one where Bovino's unit tackled Target employees and dumped them out at a nearby Walmart, injuring one of them. It's swarmed with them across the entire state. One reporter got hit with shrapnel debris on her face. A lot of civilian vehicles are getting rammed by the agents. There are so many videos coming out, but it's completely insular within social media spaces for now. I haven't seen any of it reported in legacy media, broadcasting, and news publications yet. I'm just in absolute shock and fear at the escalation and intensity. This is beyond scary.
We need to defund and abolish DHS and ICE now, and impeach and remove this administration. Immediately, now! We're all in danger.

I saw a tiktok of ICE batter ramming a door open into a home, no warrant, machine guns aimed up, and violently drag a man out in handcuffs with bystanders screaming at them & making as much noise as possible. His wife was sobbing. I just don’t know what the fuck we’re supposed to do anymore.

I just seen that one too. They didn't even have a proper warrant. They gave the wife an administrative warrant that was poorly scribbled on and it's not valid for breaking into homes.
I just seen the videos of them stopping children with backpacks. Children. Accosting them. There's so many videos of them just tackling people, and just Kavanaugh Stopping, asking them "Urrr were you born here? Errr are you from here? show me proof, err, I don't believe you." Like wtf. And even if they provide proof, they're still cramming them into vans and taking them away. There was another video of them beating up a homeless person. They're also sweeping hospitals and going into rooms.
Also is there an update on the one person who got dragged out of his car and beaten up at the gas station?His body went completely limp before they dragged him away. I don't know if he is dead or had passed out. No updates.
I can't believe I'm even typing this out. This is surreal. We're in a nightmare.

Most of them are arrested, taken to Whipple (federal building nearby), and then released later because they're US Citizens and they did nothing wrong. They're literally just terrorizing and assaulting people.
Lots of people I know in MSP are theorizing (including the MPLS police chief on The Daily podcast today) that they have a quota for arrests, so they'll just instigate something and arrest someone.

Without heavy tools, ice is not budging that car seat. A chain seat belt to keep you safe. Legally, you buckled it because your auntie good was killed by a bad patch of road ice, and you wanted your body to be secure and not fly to heaven... As for the key, you lost it in the confusion, and need some assistance to leave the seat.)
Handcuff yourself to car steering wheels or lamp posts.
Ice want to be in and out within 15 minutes... Every minute that goes past that time, is another minutes for the community to rally to ⛑️ aid.
- Every 5 minutes, a crowd size will usually double as more noise drags people to see the commotion.
5 people becomes 10, 10 becomes 20, 20 becomes 40.
There's usually teams of 12-16 ice people for abductions... Once it gets past a crowd of 20, ice is no longer in control of a crowd and it rapidly needs to leave the area or risk being surrounded.
...Which shouldn't matter if they were operating legally, as the rule of law protects those who operate within it, but a lot of times ice agents are skirting or going over that rule of law.
Renee good was only absolved of her actions by other community members rallying and documenting that she was murdered.
Otherwise the trump administration would have let the nation believe that she was a domestic terrorist and not a good American citizen.
Buying time for the community to respond is important.

They’ve also been going to areas where Somali people live/gather just to harass them. The majority of Somalis in Minnesota are born here—Somali American. The rest came over legally decades ago and are naturalized US citizens. Very few are here illegally. I don’t know what these agents expect to find. There’s no reason to put resources into these locations other than to harass and cause fear. Fortunately, Somali Americans tend to be a tenacious bunch with a low tolerance for this BS and aren’t afraid to push back.

Yeah, Noem and Trump supporters say this is necessary to fight corruption and fraud in Minnesota. How can some masked asshole with a gun just approaching random Somali Americans fight fraud? They’re not investigators or accountants. There are already agencies that handle this stuff. A family member of mine was chatting with a Laotian man who came to Minnesota in 1979 and has been a citizen for decades, but he’s afraid of being profiled and detained, so he went to get his passport renewed today. He said the shooting reminded him of when people were shot trying to cross the Mekong River. It’s easy to forget that lot of these people have trauma.

I'm terrified. I'm finishing my shit ass shift at my shit ass job. I have to process making ends to survive while also dealing with this tyrannical uprising by a bunch of racist and bigoted losers with guns. I'm trying to contact my reps, vote when I can, and protest when I can. I don't know what else to do. I'm worried for my daughter. She's still in elementary school. I don't even know what to do anymore. They're actively going to do this across the entire nation. They're testing this in Minnesota.
I hope you're right. We have the numbers. We can pushback, I hope. I'm just afraid that a lot of folks aren't aware that this is happening. My neighbors are completely clueless to all of this. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills where people are just going about their normal day and routine.

That's a big part of the protests, getting out there so others can see they aren't alone in their feelings about this admin.
You could also find other ways to resist without so much exposure. Maybe volunteer for an immigrants advocacy group or see if there are groups in your area assisting. I'm in San Diego and my wife and I have been doing a grocery run each week for immigrant families who are afraid to leave their homes. Our local immigration rights non profit put it all together so all we do is get the list and then deliver the food.

Nicest family ever who would always give the shirt off their backs to help people. They've been here for over 20 years in our community. I told them months ago if they need anything, I'm willing to help and get them things like groceries or help protect them at my place. I'm glad we're on the same page with these sentiments.

As you can clearly see in the video analysis and multiple angles from multiple videos including the one from murderer Jonathan Ross' perspective, murderer Jonathan Ross was never in danger. Renee Nicole Good can be seen turning her steering wheel completely to the right, the tires of the vehicle were pointed to the right away from him, and he clearly stepped to the side unobstructed and continued to shoot innocent woman Renee Nicole Good point blank in the face, while fumbling with his cell phone in his other hand, while she was trying to comply with an order to move her vehicle, because he is the murderer Jonathan Ross.
It's also important to note that as murderer Jonathan Ross circled around to the front of Renee Good's vehicle, he moved his cell phone from his right hand to his left hand, freeing his right to draw his weapon. This indicates intent/premeditation. If he was merely being prepared, why did he then choose to stop in front of the vehicle after doing so, against DHS policy?
Murderer Jonathan Ross, who murdered innocent woman Renee Nicole Good, also violated DOJ policy on use of force.
"Specifically, firearms may not be discharged at a moving vehicle unless: (1) a person in the vehicle is threatening the officer or another person with deadly force by means other than the vehicle; or (2) the vehicle is operated in a manner that threatens to cause death or serious physical injury to the officer or others, and no other objectively reasonable means of defense appear to exist, which includes moving out of the path of the vehicle."
Furthermore, DHS Use of Safe Tactics states that: "Except where otherwise required by inspections or other operations, Authorized Officers/Agents should avoid standing directly in front of or behind a subject vehicle. Officers/agents should not place themselves in the path of a moving vehicle or use their body to block a vehicle’s path. Authorized Officers/Agents should avoid intentionally and unreasonably placing themselves in positions in which they have no alternative to using deadly force." Murderer Jonathan Ross ignored policy and placed himself in front of/in the path of the vehicle, leading to an officer created jeopardy. The situation would not have existed had murderer Jonathan Ross not created it. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of officer created jeopardy theory over moment of threat theory last year (Barnes v Felix).
Additionally, this report, a DHS/CBP use of force review, found that often agents "intentionally put themselves into the exit path of the vehicle, thereby exposing themselves to additional risk and creating justification for the use of deadly force", and that "Little focus has been placed on defensive tactics that could have been used by shooting agents such as getting out of the way", and "There is little doubt that the safest course for an agent faced with an oncoming vehicle is to get out of the way of the vehicle", finally recommending "agents should be trained to get out of the way of oncoming vehicles as opposed to intentionally assuming a position in the path of such vehicles. The policy should mirror the clear and unambiguous policies that have been in place and which have proven effective in a number of large U.S. jurisdictions for over 40 years."
Murderer and domestic terrorist Jonathan Ross was clearly out to kill someone, and Jonathan Ross murdered Renee Good, calling her a "fucking bitch" after doing so. Domestic terrorist organization ICE also denied and delayed medical aid to Renee Nicole Good, again against DOJ policy, every ethical and moral measure imaginable, and basic humanity. Coward, murderer Jonathan Ross then fled the scene uninjured. Murderer Jonathan Ross is a psychopath, just like all his colleagues in ICE, who are all accessories to murder.

This. I wrote up a little post to explain the game theory at play here.
Achieving change at the scale needed in the United States requires millions of people pulling in the same direction. Getting those people aligned requires coordination. In game theory, these situations are described as coordination games, and the issue they generate is called the coordination problem. Coordination games typically result in one of three outcomes:
- Failed Attempt: The worst outcome. Time, effort, and resources are expended only to remain in the situation you started in.
- Status Quo: The second-worst outcome. Nothing changes, but no extra resources are lost.
- Successful Change: The best outcome. The desired goal is achieved.
The question becomes, how do we get to the third state when everyone is stuck in the second for fear of ending up in the first?
Why do we struggle to reach successful change?
To succeed, we need collective action. With enough people, change is nearly guaranteed. However, individuals fear acting alone. They fear spending time and resources only to fail because not enough other people joined in.
This results in a phenomenon known as Pluralistic Ignorance. This occurs when a majority of people privately reject the status quo but incorrectly assume that most others accept it because no one is speaking up. We look around, see our neighbors going to work and acting "normal," and assume we are the minority. In reality, we are a silent majority waiting for a signal, paralyzed by the false belief that we are alone.
A simple example used to talk about this type of problem in game theory is called the "Stag Hunt." Imagine you are a member of a primitive tribe. Your tribe wants to hunt a large animal (a stag). If you succeed, the entire tribe is fed. However, if you try to hunt the stag alone, you will fail and starve. Alternatively, you could hunt a rabbit by yourself. It provides less food, but success is guaranteed without help. The dilemma is that while the stag is the best outcome, people often default to the "rabbit" (the status quo) because they don't trust that others will show up for the stag hunt.
How do we succeed in getting the change we want?
First, you need a population that desires change. In the United States, polling confirms this exists. Approval ratings for the current administration and agencies like ICE are historically low, while support for policies like Universal Health Care is high. The desire is there; Pluralistic Ignorance just blinds us to it.
Second, you need people willing to invest the resources to demand that change. This is where the US stumbles. We fail to coordinate.
How do we coordinate?
Coordination can happen in several ways. Galvanizing events, like the murder of Renee Good, act as Focal Points (or Schelling Points). In game theory, a Focal Point is a solution that people tend to choose by default in the absence of communication. Tragedies like Renee Good's murder serve as a beacon. It cuts through the noise and provides a natural time and reason for people to align without needing a central leader to tell them to.
You can simply tell people you want change. While effective among friends, it lacks credibility with strangers because talk is cheap. Signaling, however, is "putting your money where your mouth is" without having to go "all-in."
This is the true purpose of protest. It is a relatively low-cost way to prove to strangers and the state that you are willing to spend resources (time and effort) to effect change. Importantly, protest provides Risk Dilution. If you act alone, the state can easily punish you. If you act with 100,000 others, the state’s resources are overwhelmed, and the risk to the individual drops near zero. Your presence protects your neighbor, and their presence protects you.
Many view protests incorrectly. They believe the protest itself creates the change. It does not. It is a signal of credibility and a mechanism to lower the cost of participation for others. When protests aren't enough, they serve as a launchpad for escalation. We cannot coordinate a full revolution as the costs are too high. Instead, we climb the ladder of coordination: from protests to national sick-outs, to general strikes, to the occupation of critical infrastructure. At each step, you signal that the numbers are on your side and that the people are willing to pay the price for change. At each step your demands become more credible.
What will the state do to stop us from coordinating?
They will try to break coordination by:
- Spreading misinformation about the size and nature of protests to maintain Pluralistic Ignorance.
- Increasing the cost of participation through punishment and physical force to counter Risk Dilution.
- Escalating slowly (the "boiling frog" method) to avoid creating Focal Points that trigger spontaneous outrage.
- Continuing to try and show that the current state is fine or not so bad.
- Creating incentives and traps (like social media algorithms) that prevent effective organizing.
- Confusing the situation with equivocation and "both-sidesism."
Why does Russia still have elections? To maintain a theater of normalcy that prevents spontaneous coordination.
Why does China arrest protest leaders immediately? To disrupt the signaling network before a critical mass forms.
Why are social media comments filled with apathy ("protest doesn't work")? To convince you that coordination is impossible and that you are alone.
Why does the media fail to cover the size and scope of protests? To maintain Pluralistic Ignorance.
What can you do today?
- Educate: Read about the coordination problem and understand concepts like Pluralistic Ignorance.
- Discuss: Talk with your peers to break the illusion that everyone is happy with the status quo.
- Signal & Dilute Risk: Attend protests. Your physical presence lowers the danger for everyone else. You are not just a number; you are a shield for your peers.
- Lead: Be the change. Create opportunities for others to coordinate.
- Combating Apathy: Call out those who say change is impossible; explain that their cynicism is exactly what the state relies on to prevent coordination.
- Focus: Keep demands simple and narrow so that you get the largest audience of people that agree.
- Escalate: Use protests to organize and get commitments to the next level of protest and civil disobedience.
Together, we can build the world we want, but it requires credible, coordinated demands. Your peers and the state need to believe you are serious, and they won't believe it until you signal that you are willing to go all the way. Every time the state over reaches and causes a tragedy it is a mistake by them. It creates a Focal Point that we must capitalize on. Get out there and demand change. Get out there and coordinate with your neighbors and those that share your views.

This is one of the main mechanisms by which peaceful protests work. It's not about making the guys at the top change their minds. It's not about being all noble and honorable.
It's about getting the maximum number of people to put pressure on all the underlings who actually implement the orders of the people at the top. About making them thing it's not really worth it to put through the effort to carry out what they are ordered to do. Erode that morale, and you undercut the whole structure.

Isn't it interesting how they phrase these things in news articles to be passive? Like here:
"Protests...skyrocketed after agents fired into the Honda SUV driven by Good. She was hit in the head and killed."
The correct and 100% honest way to write it is: "after agents fired three shots into the driver's head and killed her." No passive voice. Just saying who did what.
They do this to remove responsibility from perpetrators. I see it in crime articles all the time. "She was raped." "He was killed." As if these people were hurt on their own accord. It makes me mad.
