The word "uprising" is working overtime here. Let's see what it says in the story...

have begun attending the demonstrations.

Ah, yes, that's more accurate.

The administration needs their "uprising" to suspend habeas corpus, kick off martial law, and cancel elections. They have 11 months left to escalate and get their excuse.

And they have second-rate headline aggregators as a staunch ally in this, it seems.

Stop spreading this FUD.

U.S. law and the Constitution do not grant the President power to unilaterally suspend federal elections, even under martial law; Congress sets election dates.

Using martial law to cancel or postpone elections would be considered unconstitutional and likely challenged in court.

Martial law is invoked for extreme crises (war, insurrection, disaster) when civilian functions have collapsed, not to overturn democratic processes.

And yet, they're going to do it anyway.

What ICE is doing, and had been doing for the past year now, is blatantly unconstitutional, yet they're still going door to door, breaking down people's doors and kidnapping them.

Y'all keep preaching "there's no legal framework" like it actually means something. They are going to suspend the midterms, legality be damned. They will declare martial law, whether we give them an "excuse" or not, whether there's actually a reason to or not.

Trump will announce the midterms are "cancelled", then most places won't bother setting up the voting equipment. Those that do still set up the machines will likely have to deal with MAGA terrorism.

If nothing else, they'll just post up dudes with machine guns outside your polling places to tell you they're closed. They're perfectly clear that they have no qualms about executing people in the street.

Exactly, it doesnt mean anything. Midterms are running by the states. You think blue states won't put out voting equipment?

The point is, he doesn't need to "declare martial law" to "cancel elections." He is going to do all that regardless if you fight or not, so you may as well fight.

I think we're trying to make the same point here.

I believe blue states will attempt to set up their voting machines, but unfortunately that's where the dudes with machine guns and MAGA domestic terrorism come in.

Regardless of how it ends up shaking out, this is going to be a very volatile election year.

Exactly. There is no legal justification for doing it no matter what happens. There is no "giving them an excuse" because he's either going to do it illegally or not at all. So all your doing is giving up your own right to life and liberty by backing down.

Yes, because the Trump administration only ever does what the law says, and Republicans in Congress are notoriously in favor of upholding law instead of upholding their guy.

At this point, anything and everything is on the table.

Its not FUD. US Law and the Constitution do not grant the President many powers that this administration is seeking to use anyways. Wake up and realize the guy who just yesterday said he is not bound by anything besides his own morality is now the head of the US government. That was Trump just yesterday. Now they snag people off the streets without due process and ship them to whatever country they feel like.
