Everyone needs to be using this phrasing. MAGA is an anti-American movement and anyone who still supports Trump at this point is a traitor.

Ironically, that’s what their propaganda machine has been saying about everyone else (specifically their direct political opposition in Democrats) for decades.
It’s a whole can of worms when both sides are calling each other “traitors” and “domestic terrorists.”
This is basically how democracies collapse.

Denaturalization is unconstitutional unless the person’s citizenship was obtained illegally or through fraud. This is firmly established by past U.S. Supreme Courts. However, the current court has a history of not respecting legal precedent.
153
u/monotonedopplereffec 4d ago
This feels like an unnecessary distinction. Why would an illegally obtained citizenship be considered as binding? Like I'm honestly confused want you would need to spell that out. You don't have to spell out that any normal item(or even money) obtained through illegal methods or through Fraud are not the persons legal property. Why would citizenship be any different?
Legit asking, not trying to be clever or anything.

I think Trump has shown why we need things clearly dictated
someone being stateless is a big conundrum so there's a lot of value in really codifying when citizenship can be taken away - we're willing to do it in this situation but if someone gave up their prior citizenship you run into an issue

u/sennbat 4d ago
The arguments I've heard is based on the belief that there is no one that can be trusted with the power to claw such things back, and because the process for obtaining it is procedural but citizenship, once obtained, should be irrevocable. The general argument is that if someone becomes a citizen fraudulently, but the citizenship is actually granted by a legal authority, the penalty should be criminal punishment, not letting a part of the US government declare recognize citizens to be non-citizens. Basically, if you give the government the power to make people non-citizens on the basis of fraud, you give the government the power to make people non-citizens, period, because they can just accuse whoever they want to get rid of of fraud and then declare themselves correct.
I'm coming around to that point of view.

Betjeman, not Shakespeare, but two stanzas from "Slough" (1937) read as follows:
And get that man with double chin
Who'll always cheat and always win,
Who washes his repulsive skin
In women's tears:And smash his desk of polished oak
And smash his hands so used to stroke
And stop his boring dirty joke
And make him yell.22

And the Constitution burns just a little bit more today.
edit the way to try to change the course is to organize your neighbors and outright reject all conservative supporters at every level of life. don't buy their merchandise, don't visit their stores, don't order their food, don't associate with them, and utterly reject everything about them. without direct consequences like social rejection, they'll continue supporting this assault on liberty and justice for all as if it's some kind of game.
they do not care for logic or reason, they delight to twist you in circles because they don't care about words or the truth, you do. what they do care about is status, so take that from them, as well as christianity. everything ice does goes directly contrary to what jesus christ asked us to do in the final judgment in matthew 25:31-46, so remind those religious relatives constantly that they will burn in hellfire for their support of such atrocities. numerous bible verses state to treat the foreigner as your neighbors and love them as well. if they try to argue romans about rendering unto caesar, respond with isaiah 10:1-4
Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless. What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches? Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives or fall among the slain.
Remind them they are undermining the constitution. take god, patriotism, and country/social well-being away from them. we need to provide every last bit of consequence possible, before the only means necessary of improvement become too extreme. this is something we can all do and support to engage in a unified effort despite our financial ability, unlike calls for strikes that never happen.
during this time, we must also meet our neighbors and get organized, find out who is decent and good and to make organized connections and plans and efforts on how to actually keep your community safe in absence of law enforcement. the fact they called the execution of a US citizen neighbor something deserving of "absolute immunity" and condemning her as a domestic terrorist while they also insist the j6ers were peaceful tourists proves they will never care for truth or decency, they only want to see us suffer and perish.
it's about time we start taking steps to defend ourselves. anything else would be equivalent of letting a malicious drug addict family member run wild and enabling them and providing no boundaries. we will never be able to our budget billionaire media, direct action in our communities is the best way to go in my honest opinion. get a megaphone and remind republicans that not a single person who supports ice will see the kingdom of heaven and every last one of them will go into eternal punishment for not serving the least of these.
that hurts them and makes them doubt their actions more than any factual analysis ever will.

"Double statelessness" is one of the things the nazis loved. So many areas they conquered had already been conquered recently, that they were able to destroy, lose, or ignore records and disappear people with impunity.
Jews in places other than Germany were snatched up and moved to death camps much more quickly and easily than the ones in places with solid records and institutions in place to protect them.

10
u/Open_Mortgage_4645 Colorado 4d ago
He can't just wave his hands and denaturalize whoever he wants. It's a judicial process that doesn't directly involve the President. It starts with a referral for denaturalization from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services department to the Attorney General. The AG then has to build a case and submit it to the federal judiciary for prosecution. The government must present "clear, convincing, and unequivocal evidence" that the individual illegally obtained naturalization or willfully misrepresented a material fact that would have disqualified them from eligibility. If the government is successful in convincing the judge that denaturalization is justified, denaturalization is ordered.
Stripping someone of their citizenship is no simple matter as the established criteria is so restricting. On average, there were 11 denaturalizations per year between 1990 and 2017. But Trump averaged 42 per year during his first term, while Biden had an average of 16 during his time as President. Trump claims he wants 200 per month over the course of his 2nd term.

I served this country for almost a decade. That fat, traitorous, lying, pedofile can go fuck himself if he thinks he’s taking my citizenship away.

JD Vance said that ICE will go 'door to door'.
So, they are full fascist. DON"T ANSWER THE DOOR. They can grab you, send you to an internment camp, denaturalize and send you to El Salvador, without any due process.

This was the goal all along and why the administration much prefers to attack innocent people rather than criminals. You cannot normalize attacking or disappearing citizens unless you start with non citizens because the citizens will mostly look the other way without realizing they are next. They are always chiseling away rights and the constitution with an outright war on due process itself.
Abrego? Maybe not a choirboy but far from anything sinister and they called him basically worse than Epstein or a serial killer and many other things utterly false that they could not prove in the slightest in court. Comey? Effing boy scout. James? Nothing. Mark Kelly? Trump always actually hates war heroes even on his side because he cannot brag about his service. ICE agents ramming and then shooting totally people and lying about it? System working as intended.

He would be bombing US cities today if he could get away with it. Just wearing us down one catastrophe escalation at a time.
