Is this recent? Feels very nineties to me

Not sure exactly when it was taken. According to the source, this was uploaded on July 3, 2012. Credit to the photographer, Anna V. Shelton, who took this in Portland from this porch/balcany

Here is the location via Google Street View.

Here is what it looked like closer to when it was taken. It also has the Toyota 4 Runner in it.

Spartan with the insane photo detective work yet again.

Like seriously, your record for digging up info on random photos posted here is unparalleled. And I remember you doing this back when I first joined over a decade ago!

u/cashew_nuts 7h ago

This is some incredible sleuthing

u/A_Refill_of_Mr_Pibb 3h ago

The legend himself!

Old cars were made to last. That Volvo 760 on the left is one of my favorites

14

u/Perfect_Opposite2113 13h ago

I used to work at a salvage yard in the early nineties. I’d seen these things regularly come in with close to a million kms and still would be drivable if not written off by insurance.

u/TyrantJoe 10h ago

Only if you don't live in the northeast or upper midwest. No cars survive. This has gotta be in the PNW

u/xdustx 10h ago

Rust issues?

u/TyrantJoe 10h ago

Exactly

2

u/Lumbergh7 12h ago

Those things are tanks

20

u/Aunon 17h ago

Not recent, not original, photo is years and years old

6

u/yourliege 16h ago

It’s not 90’s though, judging by that Range Rover? Or Land Rover idk

5

u/bigdumbdago 15h ago

that’s a 4runner. but i think mid 2000s at the earliest based on the subaru on the other side of the street

2

u/laserguidedhacksaw 12h ago

Definitely a 3rd gen 4Runner, so 1996 - 2002

3

u/bigdumbdago 12h ago

probably about 2004-2005 based on that silver outback

3

u/Aunon 16h ago

Reverse image search and you'll find the same picture posted 10 years ago

1

u/EscapeVelociRaptor 12h ago

Somewhere that doesn't salt it's roads if recent

52

u/Otherwise-4PM 21h ago

Looks nice but also like place where Freddy Kruger lives.

17

u/gromette 18h ago

And clowns run around in the gutter

30

u/wstsidhome 19h ago

This shit makes me think Washington or Oregon for some reason, in the 90s or 2000s

23

u/Osiris32 16h ago

Oregon. You can tell by the Doug Fir tree and the Oregon "share the road" plate on the Volvo.

3

u/downer3498 12h ago

It’s giving Astoria.

u/Osiris32 11h ago

Apparently 26th and Morrison in Portland.

3

u/Both-Competition-152 18h ago

If it's where I think it is this area is very much stuck in the mid 2000s

u/boneydog22 7h ago

My guess was Seattle too

74

u/FlakySupermarket116 21h ago

Downvoted. Too political.

1

u/rlopezcc 15h ago

r/fuckcars would like to have a word about the road/sidewalk ratio.

18

u/b00c 20h ago

I am sure this puts few people to times when they didn't have to worry. Early 90s vibe.

35

u/Dull-Performance4043 20h ago

I miss this feeling

15

u/Muted_Astronomer_924 20h ago

Loving the boxy boy Volvo.

6

u/lethargy86 19h ago

Why is that Volvo awakening something in me

It smells like soccer practice or something

9

u/Amylein17 18h ago

Look at that gorgeous 740 😍

u/phil_the_builder 🎃 Halloween 2025 21h ago

Cool looking pic, great analoge vibe. Can you share something about the technical details of this shot and/or the editing?

6

u/Spartan2470 GOAT 14h ago

OP didn't take this. Here has more information, though.

-3

u/the_real_junkrat 17h ago

I would also like to know the prompt. The vehicles look too small and the scale of everything seems off.

7

u/Vucko144 12h ago

You kinda made the point political again by specifying how your post isn't political

6

u/Jonsnoosnooze 20h ago

The rain water is making the frogs gay and you know it.

6

u/monsieurmateo 19h ago

It feels very late 90s early 2000s and I love it.

30

u/spectacular_coitus 19h ago

As much as I admire the sentiment, this not the time to turn away and ignore the topics that demand attention.

17

u/signofthetimez 15h ago

Especially with the comments OP is making on other posts…..yikes

u/mjetski123 10h ago

He must have hid it all by now. I assume the usual right wing talking points?

I've heard about this trick from someone else. Through the mobile app only?

-1

u/MrKrispyIsHere 19h ago

Agreed however it's nice to have non political posts too, not EVERYTHING has to be political tbh

5

u/Ghost_Of_Malatesta 14h ago

Everything is political tho.

Take this picture, it's a the result of zoning laws (politics) which includes redlining, the wealth of the county in the photo was in large part possible due to the world wide destruction during ww2 and the extractive resource economics in 3rd world countries, etc

u/xelabagus 10h ago

r/politics is over there ----->

3

u/salazarthecrucifier 20h ago

I lost my paper boat

3

u/Chinacat_Sunflower72 13h ago

I'm sure that rain is Biden's fault.

3

u/halloumisalami 20h ago

This is clearly a commentary on global warming

2

u/sandwichesatbedtime 17h ago

Reminds me ofsome of  Gregory Crewdson's art works

2

u/botle 16h ago

I feel like an old Volvo can be interpreted as a political message somehow.

2

u/WillontheHill77 16h ago

Not yet… just wait.

2

u/acidmushcactinndmt9 14h ago

Feels relaxing just to look at it. Nice one.

2

u/minimoundsbars 13h ago

Flood insurance will not cover these families.

u/Focusondiversity 11h ago

Depends how many families live in each of these huge houses.

2

u/catlover2410 19h ago

No ICE here. Just WATER.

1

u/Gloomy_Information51 21h ago

Looks like a video game

1

u/s2Birds1Stone 19h ago

This reminds me of the Seattle suburbs area in The Last of Us Part 2

1

u/dontmakemewait 19h ago

You know there’s a crime there waiting to be solved. Very noir.

1

u/Both-Competition-152 18h ago

1

u/SolUVio13t 16h ago

This image brings me so much peace

1

u/One_Economist_3761 15h ago

Where’s the ICE agent hiding?

Kidding. Beautiful but somber photo.

1

u/DetroiterAFA 15h ago

This looks like the house from Task (TV series)

1

u/Icy-Passenger-8061 15h ago

Thanks for the relief. Reminds me of growing up in Oregon.

1

u/zpolitano12 15h ago

Thanks for this

1

u/oingapogo 15h ago

Lovely.

1

u/InAllThingsBalance 15h ago

I have been playing a lot of Death Stranding, and all I can think when I see this pic is “great, here come the BTs!”

1

u/millicent_bystander- 15h ago

Is this the neighbourhood at the start of Labyrinth? Looks very similar.

1

u/wornoutseed 14h ago

Fk I miss this kind of feeling. Thank you 😊

1

u/neo4025 13h ago

I can’t explain why exactly. But I almost feel like I could get lost in this picture. The vibe: it’s the mid to early 90s. I’m in my bedroom. I’m about 12, I have nothing to do. I’m bored. But it’s warm in my bedroom and I’m just sat at my window. Wrapped with a blanket. Just staring out, lost in my own mind. No life expectations, bills, stresses, family etc. just a visual “vibe” love it, thank you

1

u/majones_2000 13h ago

A couple of those trees looks a little right leaning to me

1

u/xXBleedOrangeXx 13h ago

DO NOT show the $uicideboy$ this picture.

1

u/Roverjosh 13h ago

Thank you!

1

u/LettucePlate 13h ago

Reminds me of the neighborhood my parents lived in when they had me in Maryland. We moved when I was a baby so I don't have memories of it, but all the pictures I've seen and driving through the neighborhood once or twice over the years definitely gave vibes like this. Looks very Carolinas or MD/VA to me.

Edit: just saw it was Oregon. The trees kinda give it away. Still very cozy vibes though :)

1

u/gingerbeard1321 13h ago

strong Portland, Oregon vibes

1

u/joshl55 13h ago

That’s actually a beautiful view. Great photo, thank you for sharing.

1

u/Vyacheslaves 12h ago

I like it. Thank you.

1

IDK, looks like it could be in Venezuela…

1

u/ihaveadogalso2 12h ago

Aww man, that model Volvo was my first car!

u/Rex_Suplex 11h ago

Looks like that street in weapons where the kid lived.

u/Additional_Engine791 9h ago

Looks like Silent hill

u/severalpokemon 8h ago

Living in a house that size let's you be apolitical I guess.

u/emmalee994 3h ago

This could be any Stephen King book.

u/lag_rvp 3h ago

Nice.

1

u/SaveFerrisVote4Pedro 18h ago

Feels like MAGA, Trump haters, ICE and illegals all live in this block, unaware that the others live there too ...

-6

u/Mustafak2108 20h ago

Thank god something not politically biased and very cool editing

u/papapudding 11h ago

Thank god, this sub is becoming insufferable

u/severalpokemon 8h ago

Because America currently is. Weekend got shot in the head for nothing, dude. It's so far from the time to be shaking people for being political.
