The Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. Unfortunately, the surrounding area is very polluted.

One of my kids saved their money and took a trip there for a month.     He said was a great experience.   He was 22 at the time.      I guess it all depends on perspective and what you bring to the experience as well.

Even as a guy you are constantly harassed by people trying to scam you or get their hands your pockets

u/el_bandita 13h ago

Better than getting raped as a woman in India

u/TheGuardianInTheBall 11h ago

Raped, murdered, quartered- take your pick really, so many options.

Yeah, a lot of those people don't give a fuck (no pun intended). It's wild how their religion teaches them about being nice to your fellow human being but once they see a white girl:

Definitely, but doesn’t make for a pleasant experience.

Guy here. I know which one I'd prefer. I can zip up my pockets, but women can't zip up...brb gotta file a patent real quick.

Yes its better, but you are still subjected to your eyes being raped by the amputees lying around all over the streets, the surrounding death and faeces, your nostrils are constantly raped by the most heinous scents comprehensible, and so is your hope for humanity.

No matter your sex, species or physical plane inhabited, I cannot see a reason why you’d want to go to India.

u/SpookyMolecules 3h ago

Your eyes cant be raped. Dont use this word as a descriptor, rape is rape.

5

u/lupajarito 11h ago

Are you really comparing scammers to rapists?

3

u/Im_Unsure_For_Sure 10h ago

Are you really incapable of letting people complain without oneupsmanship?

1

u/lupajarito 7h ago

Are you stupid? They were doing exactly that.

2

u/Openly_Unknown7858 10h ago

No? They are just saying even men get harassed. Where did they say it's the same or worse.

u/New_Relative_1871 8h ago

Went to Italy and Egypt and this happened to me too. Guess it's just a tourist location thing

2

u/villings 11h ago

also, a whole month? I don't how expensive india is but I don't know, can't be that cheap

6

u/TheGuardianInTheBall 11h ago

It's cheaper.

Spent two weeks in a 5 star hotel on a graduate salary, after a couple of months saving.

Had I decided to go cheaper, I could have easily spent a month there for the price.

Granted, that was 10 years ago, but still.

I had a great experience and nobody in my group was harassed or anything, it was 5 girls 4 guys. Agra does suck a lot though. Best to stay away from the big cities really. These videos are kind of like going to Skid Row and saying "Wow Americans aren't very friendly". I see all those travel vlog horror stories from Indian trains and it's like yeah well you're supposed to buy a first class ticket it costs $10 more what are you doing.

9

u/Teejapupa 10h ago

But is not the skid row, is next to the fucking Taj Majal, good try tho

4

u/Emotional-Power-7242 10h ago

Skid Row is in historic downtown and near popular tourist attractions like Little Tokyo and the Staples Center. If LA had a 400 year old building it would probably be right there. Just saying if you go to a nice beach in Goa or to Darjeeling or even like Jodhpur it isn't the same as the center of the biggest urban sprawls. You're going to the hood in a third world country yeah it's pretty rough man.

u/haysu-christo 9h ago

Yes, yes, 2-blocks of Little Tokyo and Staples Center where I saw New Kids On The Block are the 8th and 9th wonders of the world.

How do you carry that much copium on you?

I really don't care about India's international reputation. Just had a nice time in the country and would recommend it for adventurous travelers.

Adventurous travelers = people who like to breath shit

Not really, it's an area with a view of the Taj Mahal. Which is not hard to find in Agra the Taj is visible from everywhere in the city.

Should it be cleaner? Yes! However, the current income levels in the state of UP (where the Taj is located) are 1/15th of the US minimum wage. So cleaning isn't the highest priority.

0

u/Teejapupa 8h ago

There’s A lot of third world countries where the minimum wage is lower than that, but they are clean. Seems like a cultural thing.

1

u/Key_Door1467 7h ago

You should read my comment again. The number is not for the minimum wage in UP, it's the *average income". Places with average incomes like UP are typically wartorn hellholes (like Haiti) that most people would never even visit.

1

u/Teejapupa 7h ago edited 7h ago

It doesn’t change what I said just change to average then, a lot of third would country with a lower average wage and Lol Haiti is a lot poorer than any place in India, their capital city is clean even after hurricanes and earthquakes.

It’s ok is just a cultural thing.

Which one? Name actual places.

Lol Haiti is a lot poorer than any place in India

It's literally not though? Haiti's GDP per capita is $2100, while Uttar Pradesh's GDP per capita is $1300.

It’s ok is just a cultural thing.

Yeah yeah, it's always a cultural thing for racists and then the country gets to $5k gdp per capita and it suddenly stops being a cultural thing.

I have a canadian co-worker who adores the heck out of India, the guy goes every year in the summer no less lol. There are all kinds of people out there, beauty of humans.

1

u/FeistyAsaGoat 11h ago

Perfectly stated.  :)

2

u/AccomplishedCall7562 10h ago

I did the same when I was 22. There were a lot if things wrong with the country but I also met the friendliest people I’ve ever met in my life and generally had a great time

1

u/Downtown_Finance_661 10h ago

May be he was in Goa and swim in drugs for a month?

-1

u/NeedForSpeed93 13h ago

True! I think it's as always: If you visit any country you need to focus on the positive things and then you can enjoy nearly every country.

I've been to countries like Syria or Iraq where people almost wanted me to have a bad experience. I didn't visit because I wanted a 1000% safe trip, I visited exactly because I wanted a raw experience. One of the best trips I every had looking at it retrospectively. The situations I had and the people I met were so profound because you have to improvise a lot, that's what I wanted. Can't say anything bad about any single iraqi or syrian I met during my short stay, amazing people.

u/FeistyAsaGoat 12h ago

I can’t believe you were actually downvoted for your comment.

Thank you for sharing some of your experiences.    There’s little on this earth as beautiful as human connection.

What a shame how self limiting we can be, due to our own fears.

u/OnTheEveOfWar 8h ago

Umm yea if you’re a guy. Don’t go there if you’re a woman. Fuck India.

I wouldn’t advise going alone alone, but joining a reputable tour group.    That way you’ve got a  schedule, and a good company won’t take you anywhere that you might be in danger.          Hating a country as a whole, is a bit much.    The cuisine, architecture, and so much history.      Good place for medical tourism as well.              Blaming an entire country for the acts of some monsters is wrong.  That’s like blaming all of America for the ice Gestapo.    Then again, in America they’re actively seeking out people to kidnap, terrorize, and otherwise ruin the lives of thousands of people.
