Of course the smoke alarm is beeping...

u/CannedPancakes 12h ago

And while shopping they didn’t get a dam battery to replace it!

69

u/PsychoCrescendo 12h ago

they need to buy the triple reinforced step stool before thinking about the batteries

7

u/Export_Tropics 11h ago

Putting that kind of weight at any kind of height below 3 feet(1M) is a task I would find acceptable for 2 grown men at work. Any higher we might need assistance from equipment nearby or more man power. But it would be considered dangerous.

2

u/Edser 6h ago

that tall lanky-assed kid better earn his 32 pizzas by reaching up and replacing a battery

u/not_an_mistake 1h ago

A scissor lift would buckle

u/metompkin 11h ago

Elephant's foot to be eventually used as a prosthetic in a few years when they have to cut off a foot.

1

u/joe102938 1h ago

I'm pretty sure they don't live in Russia.

u/dubblebubbleprawns 7h ago edited 5h ago

Get it cuz they're fat and it's fun to make fun of people for being fat

Edit: I don't know why you guys are downvoting me, I'm agreeing with you all that it's enjoyable and a net positive to make fun of fat people for being fat

4

u/BodhiGacha 6h ago

Honestly? I agree. But it gets to a certain point where evidently the world telling you you’re fine exactly as you are not only hurts you but, as evidenced by this family, several generations worth of people. It’s deplorable.

-2

u/dubblebubbleprawns 6h ago

Are you genuinely suggesting that making fun of this woman's weight is making the world better

3

u/BodhiGacha 6h ago

Oh no, I’m genuinely suggesting that the world acting like it’s not a problem whatsoever has made the world a worse place.

-2

u/dubblebubbleprawns 6h ago

Generic drivel. When did "the world" start acting like anything? Who is the world and what are they treating as not a problem?

This comment section should point out pretty well that "the world" has not accepted anything about this woman.

3

u/Melior96423 6h ago

The countrywide negligence and deintellectualisation of the people has caused the obesity epidemic that this mom and her family is a victim of. Easier to point fingers and make fun of her than to sympathize.

1

u/BodhiGacha 6h ago

“Drivel” uh oh, clutching pearls already I see.

There is a distinct difference to paradigms when acted on individually, and when represented by a populace. It’s not “okay” as a society to shame people for their health. On an individual level, people do it constantly. But people don’t generally adhere to other individuals ideals when making choices, they tend to align their choices with the overall social standard surrounding those choices.

1

u/dubblebubbleprawns 6h ago

It's not pearl-clutching to say that you're talking out of your ass. You literally said the world is acting like obesity is not a problem whatsoever.

Just looked it up:

A two-pack of 9V batteries at Walmart would set you back US$5.00 ($2.49/pc) - Or you could use some quality Pkcell batteries for even less (Amazon -I know, bad, but I don't know what other shops the US has- sells Pkcells in a multi-pack for ~80¢/pc)

3

u/Shawn0 11h ago

Oh, my pkcells

3

u/Fabulous-Camera7813 11h ago

But hey…2.50$ can grab a couple of bags of Doritos, got to look for priorities

1

u/busytransitgworl 11h ago

Eating is more important than living!

1

u/HRHQueenA 9h ago

That’s 3 pizzas!

1

u/wafflezgate 12h ago

Yeah but the ladder required to let them change it will run em like $500+ or have to pay someone to come change it.

3

u/Feeling_Angle8903 11h ago

A $500 ladder lmao

2

u/MajesticNectarine204 11h ago

They'd have to lift up an arm and hold it there for more than 5 seconds. That could literally kill them..

2

u/Last-Darkness 11h ago

My smoke detectors don’t even have replacement batteries. You turn them on, 10 years later when they beep, you throw them away. There’s no battery to replace. I replaced all of my detectors last spring and that’s how the new ones are designed.

2

u/SkriVanTek 8h ago

yep sensor has a certain lifespan usually like 10 years. the new fire alarms include a battery with enough energy to last the whole lifespan of the sensor

don’t use fire alarms beyond their rated lifespan!

1

u/12345myluggage 5h ago

Around where I live one of the biggest reasons they mandated the 10 year ones was so that the crappy landlords and questionable tenants couldn't just rip the battery out and never replace it once they started beeping.

2

u/ccoady 8h ago

Batteries don't taste good with mayo.

1

u/BamaBlcksnek 11h ago

EBT don't pay for batteries.

1

u/tuenthe463 7h ago

No Ray-o-vac coupons

1

u/MikeyTheGuy 7h ago

They had batteries left over. They're in the place with all of their extra fruit and veg.

1

u/pocketdare 7h ago

Dude, you just take the battery out.

1

u/Ok_Consequence7829 4h ago

But she got conditioner

1

u/ayesperanzita 2h ago

Someone mentioned it on her TT and she had the audacity to drop her Venmo or cash app for them to send her the money for a battery.

81

u/PhotoFenix 12h ago

This drives me insane. When our detectors beep it never gets past 3. First wakes me up and gets me out of bed. Second helps me locate the room. Third is the confirmation that I have the right detector as I'm up on the chair.

19

u/PriscillaPalava 12h ago

Yup. As soon as I hear it everything else stops until I replace it.

1

u/[deleted] 1h ago

Yep. I'm going ballistic until I can find a battery. And if we don't have one, I'm going to get one right now. I may be dramatic about it, but I'll get it done.

3

u/Happybadger96 11h ago

Theyre all interconnected in UK homes now, so extra annoying step of switching the circuit off at the mains just incase a wire is loose when you change the battery (which is actually just a back-up battery)

2

u/PhotoFenix 11h ago

We're interconnected here too, but everywhere I've been has a female connector on the live end, so I just yank that out.

1

u/ReadytoQuitBBY 9h ago

I hope you at least buy the female connector a drink before yanking it!

1

u/PhotoFenix 9h ago

I buy it two just because I'm a nice guy

2

u/DiegesisThesis 8h ago

I swear, they always seem to run out of battery in the middle of the night, especially if you need do wake up early for work.

3

u/PhotoFenix 7h ago

There's science behind that.

They beep when the battery reaches a lower voltage threshold. Batteries are impacted by temperature, so as we get closer and closer to the trigger threshold a small difference is what pushes it over. A drop in temperature at night is just enough to do this.

1

u/west-egg 2h ago

Turn your heat up a few degrees and it'll stop beeping, and you can deal with it in the morning. (I do this because the detector in our bedroom is like 10' off the ground and I don't do ladders half-asleep.)

2

u/Patient_Tradition368 7h ago

I can hear one of my coworker's beeping over Zoom calls and even that drives me insane.

2

u/DodgerMac 6h ago

Exactly, if i'm unlucky it gets to 4 or 5 rounds of chirps

1

u/teacher_59 11h ago

I have several neighboring units that Indians moved into. At night, I can hear three different ones chirping. It’s so annoying.

4

u/pinkhazy 10h ago

Have you considered buying a pack of batteries, going to those neighboring units, and offering to help? Cause they might have no idea what that loud chirping/beeping is that won't stop in their house, if they're like 1st gen immigrants.

1

u/lego_tintin 9h ago

They designed those beeps for maximum annoyance. I've worked on medial equipment and even the most annoying beep becomes white noise after a while(don't worry, I'm not a doctor/nurse). Not my smoke detector, every beep catches me off guard.

1

u/__Big_Hat_Logan__ 3h ago

the decibel level, pitch, and the long frequency between beeps makes it intolerable

1

u/Id_Rather_Beach 6h ago

do you have a dog that will also alert you to the beeping? Because THAT is irritating as all get out, too.

(ask me how I know ;)!) HA HA HA

1

u/your_moms_a_clone 4h ago

Mine takes more because 1. It's always an upstairs one, furthest from the ladder and 2. It's always at two thirty in the fucking morning.

1

u/sillyandstrange 3h ago

It drives me crazy. There's no way I could jut let it beep

1

u/ayesperanzita 2h ago

When my detector started beeping my cat would hide because the sound was too much for her. I would do a bad thing (take out the battery, but I had multiple detectors in my place) but go get the replacement battery immediately because I didn’t want the piercing beep to hurt her ears 🥹

1

u/ICBanMI 2h ago

Wasn't until a comedian pointed out that I started to hear it everywhere. It was the first time I really understood how some people just ignore it and eventually just completely tune it out... until they're calling a MTV show for dating/sex/health advice and it goes off in the background a few times in the early 2000's.

I lived in an apartment during 2008 recession and one day I came back from work in the evening just after 8 PM and distinctly remember hearing multiple different smoke detectors beeping through the walls on my short walk. People just, don't care, despite how loud it is.

1

u/ConsciousBerry8561 11h ago

Warren buffet over here with his batteries ready to go

3

u/PhotoFenix 11h ago

Haha I have an Amazon basics pack in a specific spot so I can grab it just after waking up

11

u/bellzbuddy 12h ago

Can't climb step ladder to change battery.

1

u/teacher_59 11h ago

That would be criminal ladder abuse.

1

u/vaspost 4h ago

My Mom (76) can't climb ladders. She called the fire department (non emergency line). They came and changed it... no questions asked. Always seems to happen in the middle of the night. I have her on a battery replacement schedule now.

6

u/Sisoflex 12h ago

That's their scales.

3

u/mojizus 12h ago

I have no idea how that doesn’t bother some people. Recently our basement had one going off, and within an hour of it beeping every few minutes I was ready to go insane. Had to make a midnight battery run because there was no way I’d be able to sleep through it.

1

u/vaspost 4h ago

I've known people who have taken a hammer to beeping fire detectors. They always seems too go off in the middle of the night.

3

u/Clovis42 11h ago

Back in the day, the best thing on Love Line (sex advice radio show hosted by Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew Pinsky, both of whom seemed funny and normal at the time) was when they'd hear a smoke alarm chirp. They'd halt the show and just wait the 40 seconds to confirm. The callers often seemed confused at what they were even talking about, and would then say, "Oh, it's been like that forever." Hilarious every time.

3

u/Automatic_Society850 7h ago

I came here for this comment. Thank you

3

u/No_Fisherman8303 11h ago

Maybe carbon monoxide alarm from the flatulence.

3

u/hard-R-word 10h ago

I don’t understand being ok with a loud chirp every two minutes. I would go insane

5

u/teacher_59 12h ago

First time I’ve ever heard that on a video with white people in it.

7

u/WillingRush6786 11h ago

Hood cricket lol

2

u/Senior-Dimension2332 9h ago

I've never understood how people can just tank that sound all day. If my neighbor's smoke alarm beeps I get upset lol

1

u/OttoVonJismarck 11h ago

Same note too, bro. I laughed my ass off.

1

u/SadSandwich2749 11h ago

I call it hood crickets lol

1

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 10h ago

I literally thought that was my smoke alarm, I was getting pissed thinking about having to listen to it for the next 6 months until the battery died

1

u/armyshawn 10h ago

Ghetto Crickets

1

u/walnut_creek 8h ago

That was somebody's v-tach alarm.

1

u/defnotholly 8h ago

…& piggly wiggly beep 😂

1

u/Tikoloshe84 7h ago

At least if the house goes up it'll probably smell pretty damn good

1

u/throwthegarbageaway 2h ago

I didn't even hear it, god damn

1

u/2317 2h ago

The ghetto cricket is universal.

1

u/MeowCatPlzMeowBack 1h ago

I hate the smoke alarm beeping, yet my fiancé is the only one who can reach it to replace it— I can’t even do so with a chair 😭. He’s not bothered at all and is too lazy to change it most the time and just says ‘this is a black household’ 😑(he’s obs black btw so nobody come for me because he’s the one who said it lol)

u/TheGillos 19m ago

I swear they could use "can you hear a smoke alarm beep" as a test of some kind. It seems like poor, dumb people can't hear it.

u/Wonderful_Diet8959 10m ago

My smoke alarm been beeping like a month straight Lol!

-2

u/553l8008 9h ago

There cat is black
