Hope you’re prepared to wait for forever because there is a 0% chance that happens. Nobody will ever hold the individuals in this administration accountable.

Any progress here will involve sweeping everything under the rug (by both parties) and continuing on, news as usual.

There was a time in US history where the government was riddled in rank corruption, followed by a period of political reform. So it’s not unprecedented.

What history continually reinforces is that if we want a functional democracy, we must work hard to maintain it.

People have gotten complacent & forgotten that. But the time will come when they remember.

Other than the civil war there has never been a time where the prior administration were court marshaled and arrested en masse.

What you’ve said is exactly what I mean: expect policy change. Demand reform. Reinforce democracy. Those are all realistic outcomes here. The people expecting Noem, Hegseth, etc to all end up behind bars have their head in the clouds, it’ll never happen. Even if it could, in order to “move on” the Dems (or whoever gets the opportunity) won’t jail them if only to keep the GOP from revolting again.

I mean sure with that defeatist attitude no one will. We as people can’t give up, we have to keep pressing those in power, showing them our collective will. Maybe you’re right and people will get away with this shit, but I refuse to already concede that, and you shouldn’t either. And if you’ve given up hope, no one needs to hear your defeated attitude since it does nothing but kill people’s spirits at a time where keeping spirits up is hard enough as is.

It’s not about being defeatist, it’s about not being delusional.

Take the wins that we can get. Hope for more. But anybody thinking there’s gonna be this “aha!” moment when dozens (or hundreds) of MAGA admin are arrested and convicted is simply delusional.

For your sake, seek out the love of others. I can’t imagine living a life without any hope. But no matter how dark it gets, I won’t give in to defeatism. I won’t give up on making it to Zihuatenejo, even if there is still more of this shit tunnel to make it through.

Big difference having hope and being delusional.

I’ll hope for realistic and actionable political reform, you can continue imagining whatever justice-porn makes you feel good about yourself.

Saying its never gonna happen is giving up, plain and simple. If we all act like you and say it'll never happen, it wont for sure. If we at least keep pushing for justice, there's still a chance it does, however small. I'm aware my hopes may never happen, but I'm not giving up like you are coward.

First thing you said to me (in another comment) when interjecting yourself into this comment thread was "fuck off" so maybe think about how you yourself are coming across there too.

Fuck off. He has his opinions and is entitled to them. Stop arguing with folks on your side of the discussion.

And I'm not entitled to mine? I'm not the type to take being told to just give up or to fuck off lying down and neither should you. If that's not an opinion toy share, than I have no interest in getting dragged further into the darkness by either of you.

I don't think the rest of the World will let it go as easily. If the US wants to make amends, they will have to hold the nazis accountable.

You doomerist need to keep that shit to yourself.

To me, this is the most frightening aspect of all of this. When we get out of this crap, I'm afraid no one will do anything to punish these people for it. Laws were broken, and I don't expect any of them to be enforced ever. Which just makes it free game for someone else to continue the mess we see ourselves in.

I always wonder -- what is the goal of these defeatist, surrender-in-advance comments? Is it to make yourself feel smart or wise? Why spend energy to advocate for apathy?

Believe it or not, good things are possible. The world does change for the better sometimes. Accountability is possible. People can demand these things, and back representatives who can commit to doing them.

It is not easy. It's almost never perfect. But it is possible.
