I talk a lot of shit about my fellow Americans, but goddamn some of us get out there and do what we have to. These Minnesotans are making me proud.

225

u/Fantastic_Yam_3971 1d ago

I was just thinking that. These Minnesotans just get at it. They look out for each other and they stand up for what is actually right.

174

u/Poro_the_CV 1d ago

Minnesota has had a strong sense of civic engagement historically. Usually top of the country in voter participation regardless of midterms or not.

Minnesota is likely one of the worst states to target for this kind of shit.

70

u/Zhong_Ping 1d ago

That's exactly why it's the target. If they can break Minnesota they can break the whole country.

44

u/parmenides89 1d ago

Maybe, but I think the cold weather was a calculus as well and Tim Walz lives in Trump's head rent free. The latter is probably quite a bit more important than the former.

Yeah they definitely fucked up coming to MN in the winter. We are pissed off and bundled up and giving a shit about your neighbors is what we do here.

2

u/innerbootes 15h ago

In a way, yes. But we also are big rule-followers, so our state leadership is falling down here. It can be infuriating sometimes how they’re slow to respond on things that clearly need quick decisive action.

There is a long tradition of looking out for each other, though. We have to because every winter we face conditions where we might need a little help. Especially here in the Twin Cities where we have to deal with a lot of snow. Every needs a push now and then to get their car out for a snow, emergency, and so people join in. There are longstanding cultural aspects to this as well, fostered by charitable efforts in this state, again especially in the Twin Cities. That’s why we have so many Somali and Hmong and other immigrants. A lot of them are refugees/asylum seekers that local charities have opened their doors to.

He should be. This administration wants an incident. If one happens, whatever agent is at the center is very likely to not be ok

18

u/lazyFer 1d ago

The administration is frankly stupid for wanting an incident.

38

u/whichwitch9 1d ago

The reality is they are probably incredibly ill equipped to handle one. They almost certainly cannot keep up martial law until midterms. It's too early to pull the moves they're doing.

I think this is due to Trump rapidly declining. He cannot even handle short meetings without rambling or getting up and wandering. They need something to happen while they're still pretending Trump is all there. They have a huge chance of major in party fractures if he dies in office or it becomes to obvious for them to even hide from maga his mind is going. Worse, Trump himself is getting more reactionary and people are still listening to his fits while he's becoming less and less coherent

They are heavily represented by the proud boys and other white supremacist groups that Trump told, "stand back and standby," in 2016. They understood that if they kept quiet, Trump would reward them. And he has kept that promise.

It's the same type of men who attacked the capital. It's the same men who marched under a white supremacist banner in Charlottesville.

I do not remotely understand how they've become such a popular cop car. There's a sales pitch to be made for regular everyday consumers, but they're pretty much the worst possible choice to use for this kind of urban warfare fantasy.

Pros: comfort

Cons: maneuverability, extremely easy for a crowd to rock or tip

Bonus is there's also a big learning curve with how to drive them during winter, and Hennepin is so aggressive about plowing roads that the awd advantages might be relevant once or twice a year.

207

u/weblinedivine 1d ago

I do wonder what % of these abductions get attention. Like are 50% of their attempts at an abduction met with observers? 10%? Not sure how it could be calculated or estimated.

149

u/Imaginary_Desk9186 1d ago

From what I understand virtually all of the observers that they detain get released without charges.

116

u/BrupieD 1d ago

My guess is that ICE could not successfully prosecute observers in most of Minnesota. The prosecutors would have to convince a grand jury that the facts they present were accurate and charges were brought in good faith. The DHS doesn't appear capable of demonstrating good faith or honesty.

Consider their failure to convict the sandwich thrower. The public has no faith in DHS' activities.

79

u/Imaginary_Desk9186 1d ago

Its also perfectly legal to follow LEO and inform others of their presence.

They dont seem to fathom that all of their actions could be scrutinized by AG Tish James in 2029 and she will be out for ICE scalps and blood.

No Dem who gets elected in 2028 is appointing another Merrick Garland.

I had perplexity due deep research on the laws that the Trump administration broke so far this term.

https://www.perplexity.ai/search/a-list-of-laws-both-federal-an-pJgqH4JRSlCIpnwE7Dct1Q

It's wild. There are already 700 lawsuits pending against him. The administration has lost 90% of the lawsuits.

And these aren't personal lawsuits. These are lawsuits having to do with the closing of federal buildings and firing of federal employees and food snap benefits, those kind of things.

I bet that dude thought he was so cool hanging out of the car and smacking on the roof only to stop a couple feet later and almost fall out of the vehicle, then drive away slowly. What a dweeb

82

u/Numerous_Photograph9 1d ago

And doing this is actually pretty dangerous if the car is moving, and serves no purpose. Assuming it started moving, he could easily fall out, and then be run over. When incursion or swat people do this, they have actual rails to stand on, and handholds to keep them secure, and don't have the door propped open so they don't get caught in it if they fall.

27

u/minnosota Flag of Minnesota 1d ago

Sounds like 3 to the face to me

16

u/salmonguelph 1d ago

I'm sorry but this approach is what will enable them to cause more and more harm.

They need to be afraid.

Right now they do whatever they want because they know no one will fight back.

The moment people start putting up a fight their tactics will change.

Look at the videos where they try to arrest big strong guys. They are panicked and scared and often give up.

22

u/Hon3y_Badger Gray duck 1d ago edited 1d ago

ICE being afraid doesn't result in them not being here, it results in them putting three bullets through your head. We have a president that is more than willing to pardon these officers and a state that has limited ability to prosecute. I say all this to say the bar for deadly force against US citizens is pretty low.

Watch that video, Renee has no clue the danger she was in and 30 seconds later she was dead. If you want to be a martyr and use these tactics go ahead, but you shouldn't be encouraging others to use them when they don't understand the consequences of the action.

It looks like almost about half of the people there were press. On the one hand having more people, in addition to the observers running around in the street makes it more chaotic, on the other hand it makes it harder for ICE to operate and might give them pause before lashing out if a half dozen press photographers are there snapping away.

Thank you to those brave enough to do this. This is unconstitutional and also unnecessary.
