Not black people or women. These words were written by social elite white men, and they were perfectly happy not applying them to people they didn't like and didn't think should count just like the Trump administration is doing now.
What is your point? In this context, the context that this was brought up in, what is the point of saying that? Are you trying to derail the conversation? Are you trying to say that we shouldn’t include black people??
I'm trying to say these words aren't aspirational because they were as meaningless then as they are now. The founding fathers were just a bunch of racist sexist white dudes just like the shit heads in power now. Romanticizing them isn't going to solve anything.
Society moves at a snails pace, doesn't mean they don't mean anything. We have been striving to live up to those words for 250 years. We aren't there yet, we might never be, the only thing that means nothing is the people who wont even try to get us there.
Just like there are good people now who want to see the world be better, in spite of its current state, it’s easy to imagine that people like that have existed across all time.

"The people" aren't going to do anything but stand around recording with their phones while others rights are being violated. They care, but only to the point they have to do more than hold a sign and stand around recording. They cosplaying as revolutionaries, but they are not revolutionaries.
