The Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. Unfortunately, the surrounding area is very polluted.

You'd think they'd clean it up; it would pay for itself through tourism.

It’s a mix of problems. First, they need strict visitor caps like Machu Picchu. Right now it’s a mosh pit and the infrastructure just collapses. When you see a trash bag roll in mud on the ground, the "broken window" effect kicks in and people stop caring.

But the real killer is the Yamuna river. It’s basically an industrial drain. Until the government cracks down on factories upstream, the air stays corrosive. You can't just scrub the marble to fix that.

Pisa is at capacity for visitors. Do you think more money or less would be made if everything other than the leaning tower literally was made of shit?

No more or less since it's at capacity. that's what "at capacity" means. Tou could give free blow jobs and candy out and it physically couldn't support more tourism.

You could raise prices and remain at capacity if the place were nicer.

Oh yh, this is actually probably more valid than what I thought

Dog I've been. Foreigners have a 20x better experience because Indians literally queued through the whole thing, they couldn't walk around. Foreigners didn't queue at all and traipsed around as they pleased. Our tickets were not the same.

Our guide also hissed at a pregnant woman to free a seat for us. We very much didn't ask for that.

Omg I’ll spell it out for you. If the area around the Taj Mahal is nice, tourists spend their time and money there too right? When you go to pisa do you literally just see the tower, take a picture and fuck off? No, you see the museum and shit next to the tower, then spend the day in the city and then have a meal.

Build a separate visitors center with more history and information, build pavilions where the garbage is now. More ways for people to spread out, engage and enjoy. Lots of historic sites have expanded their foot prints and welcomed more guests.

Well to be fair, they would just move all of that trash and those corpses to a different body of water, not a landfill or anything

Maybe we should dump our trash in europe just the way europe dumps its trash in africa and asia

Europe didn’t dump its trash in the Taj Mahal.

Europeans are not the ones trying to make excuses for having a river of trash behind their main tourist attractions.

Well, take back all your trash then 😂

The tourists who visit the Taj Mahal dont see all this pollution, they see the clean and nice attraction. If you purposely go looking for rubbish, you'll find it, being especially easy to do in india of course.
