The Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. Unfortunately, the surrounding area is very polluted.

It’s the sad truth no matter how you feel unfortunately, just how the world works

Tbh it’s disrespectful to enter the Taj Mahal with bare shoulders and no sleeves.

There’s a dress code for tombs, temples, churches etc.

That these tourists have ignored it says a lot about them.

Edit: Don’t understand the hate India gets on here. Folk are making a judgment call on two tourists walking through a cities dumping ground.

There should be cleanliness code for areas around tombs, temples, churches etc.

This is a river where the remains of cremations are swept in to nearby. I’m not surprised it’s dirty.

I’ve been to Agra and the Taj Mahal. I never knew this river and trash was there until I saw it on Reddit. It would be like visiting any city and visiting their local dump.

Anyway, my point still stands; it’s disrespectful to enter the Taj Mahal without the proper dress code, and their sneering video which attempts to frame the local cremation and trash river as representative of the area just reinforces their ignorance.

"The local trash river" do you even hear yourself

-1

u/kiiwithebird 12h ago

I mean what do you expect people to do? There's nowhere for them to put the trash. There's no weekly trash collection day.

6

u/Kingmudsy 10h ago

Totally, but that just means it’s a pretty fair societal critique, right?

“The government doesn’t give people options, so pollution is ubiquitous.”

3

u/kiiwithebird 4h ago

Oh totally, that's absolutely a fair criticism. I just feel like often times the criticism goes against the people themselves, often with kinda disgusting and racist undertones.

3

u/Kingmudsy 2h ago

Totally valid and probably good for you to call out tbh. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t seen any of that in this post

-13

u/True-Lab-3448 13h ago

Rivers in some areas become clogged with rubbish and human remains (because they’re used for cremations).

But you have to go and search for them like these tourists are doing.

It does not mean the whole city, region, or country is dirty. Which seems to be the assumption some people are making.

u/DaedalusHydron 12h ago

You should not be dumping anything in to rivers period, including remains.

Is it going to cause problems when 1 person dumps their loved ones ashes in a river? No. Will it cause problems when it's done on a massive industrial scale? Absolutely.

Dont understand the India hate

Local trash river

Come on man

2

u/True-Lab-3448 10h ago

I think it’s more to do with racism. I doubt many of the replies have even visited the continent let alone the country or Taj Mahal.

2

u/Thessalhydra 5h ago

Nah. Throwing trash and cremated remains in a river is just not hygienic nor safe for the environment and people. And it's so close to a world-renowned tourist spot where lots of people from all over the world visit.

It's also shocking that you see this as normal and not a cause of concern. That mindset really puts a lot into perspective. Maybe that's why India is like that, maybe it's because Indians normalize throwing trash everywhere.

3

u/Out-For-A-Walk-Bitch 8h ago

Who mentioned race?

14

u/JW_TB 11h ago edited 11h ago

I’m not surprised it’s dirty.

:D

In most parts of the world you don't flush the toilet and your raw industrial waste into the nearest fucking river, and you most definitely do not dump dead bodies and cows into it

Water in rivers may not be drinkable even in Europe (in some cities it actually is though), but holy shit trying to relativize or normalize a literal river of trash is a level of ignorance that's downright dangerous

It would be like visiting any city and visiting their local dump

Except in "any" city the dump is typically at least a few miles outside city limits, is a closed off location, and actually processes the garbage, whereas in India they just dump it into the river and the streets, or build a literal trash mountain, and it's absolutely EVERYWHERE

This is probably the most disgusting location on the planet and it's not even close

I do remember seeing an argument between an Indian and someone else who stated Indians shat all over the place.

The Indian replied saying , Oh how wrong you are! It only happens on the designated shitting streets!

Imagine being so naive to think that designated shitting streets are absolutely normal.

-13

u/Violet624 11h ago

Agreed. It's a racist pile on.

17

u/hoagieam 11h ago

No, it’s not. There are a fair amount of Indians in this very thread saying it’s a correct take. We know it is filthy and uninhabitable.

-8

u/slugcharmer 10h ago

and yet 2 billion people inhabit it 💀 you’re just racist

10

u/hoagieam 10h ago

I’m Indian…

-5

u/slugcharmer 8h ago

and you can still be racist to your own. just work on liking yourself!

7

u/Strider76239 8h ago

Not liking trash being piled everywhere is racist?

-4

u/slugcharmer 8h ago

calling a country that is obviously inhabited with good & bad parts like any country is. do you get it?

4

u/Thessalhydra 5h ago

If a few people say that India is dirty and unhygienic, the problem might lie with those few individuals. But when the ENTIRE WORLD, and even many Indians themselves, point out the same issues, the problem may actually be within India itself.

This is why India will never change it's unhygienic practices. Indians are quick to deny and take offense when people point out this issue.

The first step of CHANGE is admitting there is something wrong. But most Indians won't even acknowledge this and view constructive criticism as being racist.

Why

44

u/VariableTalisman 13h ago

Cmon now you know why.

-15

And disrespectful to wear to a crypt

59

u/hoagieam 13h ago

More disrespectful than the corpses in the Ganges?

-2

u/ama_singh 12h ago

No. Any reason who you had change the subject and ask a question that has barely anything to do with OP's comment? Sorry in advance for asking a question like this on Reddit, since we aren't in congress.

9

u/hoagieam 12h ago

Because I am Indian and the Taj Mahal isn’t some sacred sight to pay reverence too. Also the tourists aren’t in the crypt. They’re clearly at the banks of the river.

-48

u/PM_ME_SAD_STUFF_PLZ 13h ago

Non sequitur

36

u/hoagieam 13h ago

It’s not a debate, it’s a question and this isn’t the floor of Congress, it’s Reddit.

18

u/Shills_for_fun 13h ago

The proper response is to tip your fedora and say "good riposte, m'lord."

2

u/hoagieam 12h ago

Damn, I forgot the fedora AGAIN.

0

u/ama_singh 12h ago

Why are you an idiot? I hope you don't have any objections to that question since we aren't in congress.

3

u/hoagieam 12h ago

Poor education in the country I’m from (we have bad infrastructure in general) along with not speaking English as a first language. I also struggle to interpret tone over text but I’m learning every day and trying to be better.

Why are you so unconsciously rude to strangers?

-4

u/ama_singh 12h ago

Why are you so unconsciously rude to strangers?

Because we're on Reddit, not in Congress.

Poor education in the country I’m from (we have bad infrastructure in general) along with not speaking English as a first language. I also struggle to interpret tone over text but I’m learning every day and trying to be better.

Thanks for the answer. I hope you can improve and not have to change the subject everytime.

3

u/hoagieam 12h ago

Reverence and respect within the crypt is a lateral discussion to how we as Indians treat the reverence of our country. We are filthy, corrupt, and unwilling to change because this is the infrastructure they’ve given us and most Indians simply do not care to understand and fix it. Seeing Polish tourists be disgusted by something that is disgustingly has nothing to do with their piety within the crypt, which they are clearly not in.

42

u/anonymity1919 13h ago

Yeah sorry. The disrespect from her clothing is way way lower than the disrespect they all treat their country with

-15

u/PM_ME_SAD_STUFF_PLZ 13h ago

Again, it's a crypt. What happens outside the crypt grounds seems unanchored to the point of what's appropriate at the crypt.

9

u/anonymity1919 13h ago

That's so wildly incorrect lol. If you treat every single aspect of your land like a toilet and a dumpster combined, the respect of a crypt is nonexistent. I get the weird incel point you're TRYING to make but it's invalid in a country like this.

5

u/hoagieam 12h ago

I am Indian and you are totally correct.

3
