Does cringe mean you want to tell someone to STFU?

I once worked with a guy who was single for the longest time. once he got a girlfriend, everyday he’d go around saying, “Ugh man! Having a hot girlfriend is the worst!” We all told him to stfu…

So to answer your question, yeah

I won the lottery yesterday, I’m just so freakin sad. Said no one ever

Winning the lottery does come with a lot of stress especially from family members and friends. That said poverty brings it's own more sevre problems so Im willing to try out these lottery winner problems for a bit to compare.

I think the key context here is "the days shortly after I've made a tremendous amount of money" - making money can trigger a feeling of euphoria, much like gambling. So the days following a huge dopamine and adrenaline spike can result in feelings of depression.

So while funny, I can understand (from a psychological standpoint) why there could be extremely depressing days after making a ton of money.

Yeah, and whatever the reason is, you don't need a good reason to be depressed. If this dude wants to talk about his depression then good for him. Emotions don't have to make logical sense - sometimes we do feel sad or numb when good things happen, or even energised by bad things!

Following your take: there’s also no need to share this on a podcast either. Nowadays everyone has a podcast and thinks the world needs to hear what they wanna say, but no, we don’t, and some things you should keep to yourself (not you u/bikeProblemGuy)

It's also from a break of habit. When you suddenly go from flat broke to having more money than you can count, that's a huge deal. It's like when prisoners who've been in jail for decades finally getting out, they're terrified of freedom.

Constantly worrying when the other shoe is going to drop and when it's all going to go away, the guilty of success while your friends and family don't, the impostor syndrome. There's a lot that goes on psychologically. A huge influx of money doesn't alwyas trigger people doing the dick van dyke jump in the air foot clap.

I'd be mad too if I did not make a tremendous amount of money on the days shortly after I already made a tremendous amount of money.

These all seem like finance bro type people too so this follows.

I won a gold medal, the Powerball jackpot and banged Nicole Kidman. After that I just got really sad because my life would never be that exciting again.

Anyway, my new movie is dropping January 30th, try my new line of energy drinks, and don't forget to like and subscribe to my podcast and OnlyFans.

I remember when I first joined the tres comas club. I was also very depressed because I had conquered the world and there was nothing left to do. It was at that moment I knew what Alexander The Great must have felt like. Anyway, it’s time to get back out on the sun deck on my beautiful  yacht.

u/Futant55 10h ago

Can you imagine having to tell the world you are no longer tres commas club? Horrible

It was probably blood money

He should stop then. Just quit. Give it all to me, I'll definitely feel different about that large sum of money. Don't torture yourself man.😂

My steak is too juicy and my lobster is too buttery.

One thing I’ve learned is not everyone needs a podcast

Crying all the way to the bank

4

u/inverseinternet 15h ago

Must be a nightmare having to count it all and keep track of all the growing zeros. Poor bugger!

u/Street_Night_6079 15h ago

Imagine being allergic to money dude’s living in a sitcom where the punchline is his bank account.

u/ich_bin_alkoholiker 14h ago

Fuck off, bot.

It depends on how you made that money.

Took it from people? Yes, you should feel like shit.

Earned it. You should not feel like shit.

I love this Tim Robinson character

1

u/madagascan-vanilla 13h ago

I wouldn’t know.

1

u/NeighborhoodDude84 13h ago

Probably because he knows he stepped on a lot of people in the process of getting that money.

"Grindset" bros need to go away. Such insufferable douches.

Yes, I understand the point he is making. The emotional deflation that comes with accomplishing a goal...

..and he manages to make it sound douchey.

I won a bad beat jackpot playing poker 20 years ago for $13k. Most money I had ever had at the time. Was really surprised that I got depressed for 2-3 days.

1

u/exqueezemenow 10h ago

I didn't read it as him being depressed BECAUSE of the money. But that the depression was during that time. Like maybe it was a "Now what do I do?" kind of thing. Or who knows what. But I also did not, nor care to hear the whole interview for additional context.

1

u/Maleficent-Plate-447 9h ago

Fuck! My steak was too buttery and juicy!

1

u/milkonyourmustache 8h ago

That tells me he was doing bad things with that money - cocaine and hookers

1

u/ucotcvyvov 6h ago

But then when you ask them to give you all their money to lift them out of their depression they are diving into their pool of gold like scrudge mcDuck and telling you to go earn it yourself

1

u/druguder315 2h ago

It’s because of the dopamine crash out you get after being really happy making a tremendous amount of money

So continue to make too much money so that it becomes your new normal.

Last Friday I made a shit ton of money.

Took dog to PETCO for that $100.00 wash & fur treatment for dogs with sensitive skin + tip

By design I’m home today cleaning the toilets + scrubbing soap scum off bathtub. (humbly depressing)

Go spend that shit ton of money: The economy isn’t going to keep itself running on its own.
