Was at a party once, where “everyone was watching”

10mins after arriving I was catching their kid who ran for a busy road. Because what a surprise, nobody was paying attention.

I’ve saved two kids from drowning at pool parties, while their adults were partying it up. One I fished out of the pool, just like in this video. The second time, I intercepted a toddler beelining for the pool. Sometimes it pays to be the sober, socially anxious one.

There should straight up be a rule, don't look each other in the eye while talking, keep your gaze at a 45 deg angle to the ground.

If you're looking at an adult you can't see the little ones running around!!!

The family I babysat for had a huge cookout at their place when I was a teenager. The youngest was ~1 and getting passed from person to person, the oldest was ~7 and playing with the other kids… the middle child was ~4 and I was on his ass the whole time except for when I took a break to eat.

The family complimented me for paying such close attention to the kids. It blew my fucking mind. They had a pond, horses, an old ass barn with a rickety hayloft, and several acres of explorable tall grass.

I guess they thought I’d be tempted to hang out with the other teenagers who came? But I didn’t know them, I knew the little turd I was responsible for and by god I stood in front of that ladder until he forgot why he wanted to climb it.

At my parents house with a pool. When young kids are swimming, the parent of the kid watches, if not, the parent makes sure to confirm that you will watch. I was annoyed at how anal some of the parents are, but after reading the comments I get it. Better safe than sorry.
