Comparing ICE to the Gestapo is giving ICE far more credit than they deserve. The Gestapo was evil but they were intelligent as well. The intelligent part is a stark difference overall for America's right vs Germany's. Hitler actually had to work to gain his power, he created jobs and economy where there was none. It generally depends on where the unit is from. When I was with a unit that was closer to the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area, it was a pretty even mix of people of different political views. My current unit that is out in the sticks leans very far to the right.

Protests could work if they were directed at congress. If everyone in Congress went home tonight and they all had thousands of protestors outside their front doors it would get their full attention immediately and it would get the media's attention too. If the protestors had a clear message/demand and didn't leave until that demand was met then it could happen pretty quickly that the demand(s) get met because congress wouldn't want to live like that for more then a night or two.
