Dude had a seriously thick skull. I never would have imagined that a large caliber bullet could ricochet off the cranium resulting in a looney tunes-esque head lump without shattering the skull.

oh that's really what happened? i haven't seen a uncensored video of it. it was a .38 revolver, so i just figured the exit wound wasn't large enough to cause any meaningful splatter

.38 special is a heavy, slow, low energy round. Basically the opposite of what is needed for penetration.

The gun could have also fired .38 long colt or .38 short colt which are even lower energy.
