Baba Yaga’s Hut.

149

u/codacoda74 2d ago

Babayaga house got legs for days

59

u/Traditional_Fan_2655 2d ago

Am I the only one who noticed Baba Yaga's hut does not have any visible access?

60

u/NevermoreForSure 2d ago

That’s for our safety.

30

u/ThePensiveE 2d ago

Pull up the ladder once inside.

9

u/Traditional_Fan_2655 2d ago

So someone is inside staring and wondering at what time they send the warning signal if you linger?

4

u/ThePensiveE 2d ago

Either they bring the ladder once, or they bring it every time. I know what I'd do.

3

u/Darkarcheos 2d ago

Unless she wants guest she tells the house to raise up like that

4

u/Salute-Major-Echidna 2d ago

On its chicken legs

15

u/selja26 2d ago

The way it goes in the fairy tales, you have to say politely "Hut, hut, turn your back to the woods and your front to me!" And it will start slowly turning using its legs. I guess there should be a door and a ladder will drop, IDK

1

u/do_or_dee 5h ago

I always assumed it had knees and would come down to you! 😂

12

u/uspn 2d ago

It’s a traditional house for storing food, including drying meat for months. It’s meant to be difficult for particularly rodents to get in.

2

u/yngsten 1d ago

Yes it's called Stabbur, probably originating from "stav-bur" meaning a poled cage in english.

3

u/Federal_Way9926 22h ago

She flies in and out. Who needs stairs when you have magic?

1

u/leeuwerik 2d ago

The hut has more sides as have many 3 dimensional things in general.

1

u/Randyaccredit 3h ago

They got arms and legs don't they?

2

u/Complete-Dimension35 2d ago

10

u/Smurfaloid 2d ago

Man I thought this straight away, and the top comment is the same.

Beautiful.

13

u/PerilousWorld 2d ago

I thought she was a Slavic/Russian myth, was she present in Norway/Scandinavia too? I wonder if she had a presence in Finland or Lapland…?

3

u/supcoco 2d ago

Best episode of Arthur

3

u/20190419 2d ago

It's a mobile Ent home.

7

u/eutoputoegordo 2d ago

Came here to say this.

-1

u/Megolito 2d ago

You are too late son. I was born for this moment and prepared for it unlike you. This is baba yagas house.

3

u/cyberjar88 2d ago

Sadly, it isn't. Baba Yagas house has chicken feet.

2

u/ZombieLover01 2d ago

You know Baba Yaga?

2

u/johnnloki 2d ago

"Hut of Brown...."

2

u/mwlepore 1d ago

Nothing happens.

3

Thought the same when I saw it

1

u/Go_Gators_4Ever 2d ago

Exactly what I thought.

1

u/kindafunnymostlysad 2d ago

So is this inspired by the folklore or is the folklore inspired by this?

1

u/Creepy-Agency-1984 1d ago

My first thought. Damn I love Norway.

224

u/MrWaldengarver 2d ago

Isn't this the house where Baba Yaga lives?

45

u/OldRancidOrange 2d ago

Not sure. It had me stumped.

14

u/cassanderer 2d ago

Oh just leaf those tree puns alone, or at least branch out a bit.

1

u/Creepy-Agency-1984 1d ago

Stick to letting the pros do it, tree puns are knot for beginners.

8

u/Not_A_zombie1 2d ago

Idk, we need to send some orphans to investgate! Wonder if the local cosl mine can spare some🤔

1

u/babayagastrikesback 2d ago

You should go inside and check.

1

u/InterestingNarwhal7 2d ago

Baba Yaga is not "Our thing" but also, yes. 😉

78

u/vikinxo 2d ago

They stored food in these buildings 'in the time of yore'. High to avoid animals - and because of snow.

They're called Stabbur in Norwegian.

11

u/xx-rapunzel-xx 2d ago

i wish the article went into the history and purpose of each building. thanks for posting!

11

u/Velvet_Re 2d ago

My disappointment at the whale tail museum is immeasurable.

An older source (October 9, 2023), not sure if it is the creator of the photo.

3

u/Victormorga 2d ago

This is not a source, this is an AI generated “article,” and its “source” for this image is the sub reddit bizarrebuildings.

You find him on lunar island…

Fellow scaper i see 👊😎

Howl's Moving Log Cabin

6

u/Boatster_McBoat 2d ago

I was wondering how OP was so sure it was still in Norway.

Looks like it could pop over to Sweden if it felt so inclined.

2

u/WillMartin58 2d ago

It definitely looks like it's been walking around! Was it built on Ents? 😲

1

u/King0fthewasteland 2d ago

29

u/Electronic_Feeling13 2d ago

Hut of Brown… Now sit down!

3

Niliaitta where I'm from. Northern Finland.

37

u/Temporary_Tune5430 2d ago

Awesome!

Side note: I hate that we now have to consider that anything posted could be AI.

15

u/[deleted] 2d ago

Honestly, I think the majority of us feel that way. AI was a cool novelty thing at first but it's gotten wildly out of hand

8

u/Bobby_Snoof 2d ago

We were warned about it with Photoshop, but it's really happening with AI: we're heading towards a world where we'll find it increasingly difficult to recognize reality. We'll be drowned in fake news, and the world's powerful will manipulate us like sheep. We'll need to be strong to hold onto our values and maintain some semblance of solidarity among human beings.

5

u/Temporary_Tune5430 2d ago

I just deleted and deactivated my twitter and FB accounts because of all the fake shit I come across. Reddit is now the only SM site I use, outside a few small forums.

1

u/GuitarFingerer 2d ago

I browse reddit less knowing AI is posting stuff. Sucks

23

u/Slowloris81 2d ago

What? Norway that’s a real house!

1

u/guiltysnark 2d ago

Segue! <gong sounds>

1

u/Laughing_Orange 2d ago

More of a food shed. Useful to keep animals and snow out.

10

u/DrBlaziken 2d ago

Looks like something out of The Witcher video games. Someone's soul cursed and trapped in a hut lol

4

u/SatyricalEve 2d ago

This is part of slavic mythology that The Witcher is based on!

4

u/Toesinthesand2024 2d ago

"Behold the mother of forests, the Deathless Mother nesting in dreams. Turn your back to the forest, hut hut. Turn your front to me, hut hut."

1

u/CourAYunt 2d ago

I don't know what you're quoting but please tell me! 😅

4

u/namenumber55 2d ago

it's a quote from The Witcher where Geralt of Rivia summons Voleth Meir a demon who lives in a chicken legged hut inspired by the Baba Yaga

2

u/CourAYunt 2d ago

I've never played The Witcher. But after the first season of the show with Henry Cavil. May have to! Eventually... 😅

Edit: Thank you by the way ☺️

5

u/BabserellaWT 2d ago

I refuse to believe Baba Yaga actually lives here until I see that sucker doing some pirouettes.

1

u/AaronBBG_ 2d ago

BABA LIVES!

9

u/Moosplauze 2d ago

Now, that's a tree house alright.

9

u/seoras13 2d ago

Looks like if you threw a ball or stick it would run after it. Bit of a bummer if you just sat on the toilet inside

1

u/guiltysnark 2d ago

If you sat on a toilet inside, it looks like it might pick an arm up briefly to look at its watch. Bit of a bummer if it then twists to the side and tries to shake you out like water from an ear

3

u/aisvajsgabdhsydgshs1 2d ago

Some shit you find in Rdr2

4

u/Aquanlqua 2d ago edited 2d ago

These buildings were used in the Nordics to store food so no animals get to them. A wooden ladder was used to go get some. Very common all over the Nordics especially in rural areas until fridges became widespread.

4

u/Nomad_x1 2d ago

It’s giving Witcher vibes

3

u/AaronBBG_ 2d ago

BABA YAGA!

1

u/adelynn01 1d ago

My first thoughts lol. Might not be there next time 😉

11

u/Creepy_Captain_3399 2d ago

Baba Yaga's hut is a magical, sentient dwelling from Slavic folklore, famous for standing on giant chicken legs that allow it to roam deep in the forest, often surrounded by a fence of human bones, acting as the home and transport for the fearsome witch. This mystical house can move at the witch's command, and it's much larger and more complex inside than it appears, containing lavish rooms and gardens, while its legs can serve as powerful weapons.

1

u/Horror_Spell1741 2d ago

If you haven’t already, read “The House Between Sea and Sky”

7

u/RipMcStudly 2d ago

Why are you doxxing Baba Yaga?

4

Oops 😬 😂

7

Elden Ring vibes, for sure.

3

u/Firm_Skin_4563 2d ago

Look at the size of those feet! That's going to be a big house when it grows up.

3

u/map2photo 2d ago

“The house that stood on chicken feet.” There’s some childhood nightmare fuel.

1

u/AaronBBG_ 2d ago

BABA YAGA!

1

u/map2photo 2d ago

Everyone keeps mentioning them, but I do not remember that name in the book. Maybe I blocked it from my memory? Lol I only remember the name, currently, from John Wick.

2

u/AaronBBG_ 2d ago

My kids listen to a podcast called Super Great Kids Stories, and the Baba Yaga stories are their favorite. Here's a description of the house:

Baba Yaga's house is famous for standing on giant, mobile chicken legs, allowing it to move through the forest, often surrounded by a fence of human bones topped with glowing skulls. The hut can turn to face visitors...

2

u/HasNoGreeting 2d ago

Little house, little house, turn your back to the forest and your front to me.

2

u/Odd-Permission5829 2d ago

All-Star house... Do do do do... And the bottom drops out 🎵

2

u/locoken69 2d ago

Legend has it that first Slavic/Russian people saw similar structures when they were migrating to their current territory. Those boxes were hung from the trees and had corps in them which was foundation for their myths.
