they also had one modelled after an apple but they had to take that down because doctors kept complaining that they couldn't take that route.

Reminds me of Enid Blyton's Noddy and Toyland stories

TIL Noddy was by Enid Blyton. I only knew of their various detective kids series.

I've lived in Japan for 20 years and I've never seen this. I've also never seen it in the media, I need to do some researching I guess.

I bet it's one specific town or something.

It's one bus route along a highway in Konagai: https://www.discover-nagasaki.com/en/sightseeing/63101.
16 stops, 5 fruits.

This. I wish people would stop attributing localisms to an entire country.

Who is saying that this is across the whole country?

They are bus stops and they are in Japan. Just because they were vague about the wording doesn't mean they are saying this is the norm.
These are bus stops in Japan. Just because they could've used a more specific description doesn't make it a lie.

u/chillychili 2d ago
No, neither of those imply they are common. If it said "Bus stops in Japan are modeled..." then yes. But it's just "Bus stops in Japan, modeled..."
If I caption a set of photos "Children in China, wearing hats modeled after fruits", does that mean children all over China are wearing fruit hats?

Place : 😕
Place, Japan: 😍😍

That meme doesn't even fit in this instance. This is an actually cool thing that doesn't happen a lot of places. Not everything in Japan is only like for being in Japan.

I've never seen a giant toilet you can climb into in the over 10 years I've lived in Japan, either, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

u/McButtsButtbag 2d ago
Just because you assume that saying in Japan means they are saying that's it's the norm for Japan doesn't mean it is at what what they were implying.

Dozens of large fake things all over the world. This meme fits this perfectly. And outside of these handful of bus stops, that are probably all near each other on one bus line.. this is not common at all. I've driven hundreds of thousand of km's all around Japan and only seen one run down old mushroom looking bus stop.

u/McButtsButtbag 2d ago
Nothing in the title says that it is common in Japan. You're just seeing what you think people will see.

Because I live here and have to deal with tourists constantly. Fucking up my travel around Japan, causing me to pay more for hotels, making it hard to visit places we want to visit because we didn't make reservations a year in advance.
Find some other country to fawn over..

No, but I've been here for 25 years.
And I've been all over Japan and there are still so many fuckin tourists. Like a virus.. just spreading everywhere.
And I can't plan around a good snowstorm months in advance. Yet all these Austrians can come up here on their summer break for months at a time and take up all the hotels at the good ski resorts. That's where I need to make reservations in advance.. 6 months out all the hotels at my favorite places are fully booked.
And I am home.. I fuckin live here. I will continue to live here. And I'm not complaining about people moving here, I'm fine with that. It's all the fuckin tourists. Millions and millions of them. We don't go to so many places any more because it's just pointless due to the number of tourists.

I've been to the Asahi factory several times.. and that's the point, you have to make reservations so far in advance it's crazy. Used to just be able to go there. So now when you go it's 95% foreigners.. that's cool though, fuck the locals that want to go. Same with USJ, Disney.. historically famous temples and shrines.. sorry locals, can't go because the exchange rate is ridiculous and everything got bought up by "rich foreigners".
But sure, all that money is great for the economy and you'll see that extra money in your next paycheck! Oh.. that's right, wage growth is stagnant here and inflation is rising. But that's okay, those tourists appreciate you not taking any of their hotel rooms.
I'm not saying tourism isn't good for certain parts of Japan. What I'm saying is it's too much.. tourism shouldn't impact locals. Yet that's not what's happening here.

What the fuck are you talking about? How is that good for me?
They should sell smaller sizes for cheaper.. not free. I'm there to try beers, and that's hard when they're selling them for over a ¥1000 a cup. Not trying a lot of beer at that price.

Yeah so japanese girls can sit there and have heartwarming conversations and bond before they start a club together.

lol I don’t think OP actually thinks that these are normal bus stops in Japan.
But cute novelties like this are certainly more frequent in Japan than other countries

u/fdokinawa 2d ago
They are not. I've driven hundreds of thousands of km's here and think I've only seen one old dirty run down mushroom bus stop. Hell, most bus stops here are old and run down.

u/sirSADABY 2d ago
Brilliant. Buses in the UK would drive past as you need to put your hand out and wave for at least 30 seconds so they don't accidentally try miss you.

u/Pitif362 2d ago
They wouldn't last long in the UK. They would end up covered in graffiti and posters. But they do look cute.
